Piano Maintenance

Piano is a name given to a musical instrument which produces sound by striking steel strings with fabric hammers that allows the string to vibrates continuously. These vibrations are transmitted through the bridges to the soundboard which amplifies them. Piano is invented in the year 1700 in Florence by Bartolomeo Cristofori of Italy. The word Piano is derived from the Italian name Pianoforte which means soft.

TIPS FOR CARE AND MAINTENANCE

There is special care which should be taken while making a retail purchase. Before leaving the showroom it is important to copy down all the numbers of the particular Piano. Making arrangements to insure the warranty tuning is performed by a registered qualified member of the Piano Technicians Guild. In the cases of a Vertical Piano a free wall is a must, most preferably one without a heater or an air conditioning vent because pianos are moving musical instruments. More care is needed to be taken if it is a Grand Piano as some situations will effects the sound.

The closer to a hard wall, the more sound will be reflected immediately. Also because the technician needs to fit his body on the upper side of the Piano for tuning, depending upon the shape of the tuner there should be little space otherwise the Piano will be moved each time it is serviced. Open windows in the direct vicinity of the instrument will let in the rain and the Piano may get wet, note that Pianos don't play well under water. Maintaining the finish in modern pianos is a cry from old days of varnish as they were photosensitive. Keeping the Piano with sunlight exposure it could become darker and darker in color. Many older pianos appear checkered and the wood grain is barely visible. Today's lacquers, certainly the epoxy finishes have no photosensitivity at all.

CONCLUTION

No air conditioning or heating system in the normal house can keep up with the needs of the musical instrument. Humidity is the one key element that will age the piano faster than any other as the piano is ever- moving instrument. The piano, especially the soundboard, moves with changes in moisture content, it cannot be stopped.
